Advanced Topic 43 of 52 Data Structures

Circular Buffer

Fixed-size ring storing streaming data with wrapping indices.

How it works

A fixed array with head and tail indexes that wrap around using modulo, so enqueue and dequeue are O(1) and no memory is moved. Full vs empty is distinguished by a count or a spare slot.

Where it is used

Audio streaming, logging, producer-consumer buffers.

Common pitfall

Old data is overwritten when full unless you check for capacity.

Where it fits in the course

Circular Buffer is topic 43 of 52 in Data Structures, rated Advanced. It follows LRU Cache Structure. The next topic is Persistent Data Structures.
