Beginner Topic 5 of 51 Algorithms
Big-O Notation
Asymptotic upper bound describing worst-case growth.
How it works
Big-O gives an upper bound on growth: f(n) = O(g(n)) means f is eventually at most a constant times g. Related notations are Ω (lower bound) and Θ (tight bound).
Where it is used
Summarizing algorithm cost: binary search O(log n), merge sort O(n log n).
Common pitfall
Dropping constants hides real costs for small n, and Big-O does not mean worst case by itself.
Where it fits in the course
Big-O Notation is topic 5 of 51 in Algorithms, rated Beginner. It follows Space Complexity. The next topic is Linear Search.
