ACID Properties

Atomicity, consistency, isolation and durability guarantees.

How it works

Atomicity: all or nothing. Consistency: constraints hold before and after. Isolation: concurrent transactions do not see each other's partial work. Durability: committed data survives crashes via write-ahead logs.

Where it is used

Reliable relational databases.

Common pitfall

Many NoSQL systems relax some of these for scale.
